THE DREAM

KAFE KISKEYA creates a comfortable space for folks from various parts of the city to meet in & share time together. ~ KISKEYA is the Taino Indian word for Mother of the Earth & is what the Island of Hispaniola, including Haiti & Dominican Republic, was called before Columbus arrived over 500 years ago, a time when all of the inhabitants lived in harmony. ~ THE DREAM is for all of humanity to once again live together peacefully on this Earth. By spending time together, we can make that dream a reality!

PTSD discussion Friday June 20 @ 7pm

Friends of Cherith Brook

This Friday evening, June 20 we will be having our June CLARIFICATION meeting a 7PM at Kafe Kiskeya (the store front next door to Cherith Brook, 3308 E. 12th St., 64127).

Sally Hass, Ph.D., who works for the Veterans Medical Center in Leavenworth, KS will be speaking to us about POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD).

There are many traumas folks experience that result in PTSD: Perhaps you know a returning military personel or past veteran who suffers from trauma of war. Perhaps you have family member or neighbor who has suffered a life trauma that has left them emotionally wounded by PTSD. As those who work extensively with veterans, those facing daily street violence, prolonged homelessness, forced prostitution, domestic violence and the like, we desire to know more about PTSD so Cherith Brook can be a place of healing welcome. This is a topic important for all.

Hope to see you there.

Blessings,
Cherith Brook Community

I'm encouraged to see that the discussion of PTSD was expanded to include crime and domestic violence. Sometimes the suffering close to home is overshadowed by the horrors of war. Thank you, Kafe Kiskeya, for opening a space for the people who might otherwise go unheard. Or, even worse, who might convince themselves that their pain is somehow less important.
